Touch typing
I am doing a touch typing course at work. It's a new thing we're piloting. It's computer based and called E-typing, just like the classic Jag.
So far my word per minute rate has fallen dramatically, so has my accuracy and my forearms really ache afterwards. I haven't progressed beyond the rest positions yet.
Apparently, 15 words per minute with 95% accuracy is good, even if the words are dad and fad and lkjhk.
The trainers see me as something of a challenge. I am quite quick for two fingers and have been doing it for years. I am a mystery to science because I haven't had RSI yet (repetitive strain injury). Of course, saying that is a kiss of death. Maybe these aching forearms are its onset.
What will be interesting is if there any improvement to my guitar playing. I have very Stiff Little Fingers (great band! - and they're touring again soon!) so I reckon one sort of finger exercises will benefit the other exercises.
Don't bet on it says one of my mates. "It might be like footballers and cyclists. They work completely different leg muscles."
Frankly I doubt it. I reckon I'll benefit on both counts. Completely different sets of leg muscles may well be exercised by cycling or running about after an inflated pig's bladder.
Fingers are much smaller and there's only so much room inside them for different sets of muscles.
