Revisions submitted

The (bigger better) Horsepower Whisperer has now been re-submitted to the printers.

They've already asked for it to be re-submitted. This is because I offset the odd and even pages towards the outer edge of the page so text didn't disappear into the gutter in the middle. Having re-read their submission requirements, I can see that they specify that all text should be centred.

I thought I was being clever. When I received the galley proof, text seemed to be disappearing into the gutter but now, that the book has that well-thumbed "read" feeling, the spine seems to have loosened up and this no longer seems to be a problem. So I'll re-submit and forget about this issue.

I also have the opportunity to re-check the text for errors but it strikes me that this book publishing lark is very much like re-spraying cars. You look at each panel very closely, spot an imperfection and go over it again. Re-examining the panel, the imperfection is sometimes still visible. Eventually you reach a "Sod it!" stage. Well, I do. You get fed up with the constant cycle of re-working and fit the panel to the car or put the lights and wheels back on and Voila! the alleged imperfections disappear.

Just in case this doesn't happen, one of my speed reading, motorhead, technically literate mates is going to read it before the final sign off.

So the text has already been centred and after another final look by me, the text block will cover off tonight. I should get it back within a working week and once Matt's done his stuff and the text stands his scrutiny it'll be ready for Christmas.

That's this year before anyone sends me a comment about Christmas 2008.
